Is That An Oompah Band I Hear? Oktoberfest Themed Events Around Town, and A Weekend Tap Update Including Founders Breakfast Stout!
Officially, Oktoberfest ended on the 6th (in Germany). And I’m guessing didn’t even take the time to locate your pair of lederhosen from last year, did you. (You do own a pair, right?) In case Oktoberfest caught you off guard and left you behind, here in Roanoke, it seems as if there is plenty of time left to celebrate. Events with an Oktoberfest theme are coming up over the next couple of weekends, so at the least, seek out some good examples of the Oktoberfest, or Marzen, beer style. Even if you still can’t find your lederhosen.
Here’s a quick run down of a few events still to come:
On October 12, 16 West Marketplace downtown will be holding their first Oktoberfest event, from 2 to 9 pm. According to their facebook page, they have partnered with local breweries to bring on five different fall/Oktoberfest style beers, and will also have everything from kids activities to live music.
Martin’s in downtown Roanoke has expanded their Oktoberfest party to both Friday night as well as Saturday this year, on the 18th and 19th. German inspired cuisine, Oktoberfest style beer and likely other fall seasonal beer will be on hand inside the restaurant as well as in the outdoor beer garden on Saturday. It’s Martins, so of course there will also be live music Friday night (likely just inside) as well as on Saturday (outdoors and in), beginning at 4 pm and running well past midnight.
Also on the 19th, Apocalypse Ale Works in nearby Forest is holding their first ever Oktoberfest celebration. More details should be available through their facebook page as the event grows closer.

Also, welcome back Great Divide Brewing Company to Virginia as Blue 5 taps the brewery’s double IPA Hercules! The downtown restaurant will also have Starr Hill’s Smoke Out rauchbier, as well as Founders Breakfast Stout.
